Remotely-Sensed Operations

The remote sensing component of the Shell Breton Sound Ecosystem Project is based out of LSU´s Earth Scan Lab (ESL), a satellite ground station that receives and analyzes environmental data from a number of satellites, including the NOAA Polar Orbiting Environmental Satellite and GOES.

The Lab is one of a very few university based receiving stations. This state-of-the-art laboratory serves the State and Nation with real-time imagery of the atmosphere, oceans and land masses and is used for emergency response, for environment research and for teaching/training of students.
