Breton Sound Monitoring Surveys

Samples are collected along a 16 station transect within the estuary. Measurements are made enroute using a flow-through system (Lane et al, 2007) in addition to collecting discrete samples.

The following parameters are analyzed monthly:        *limited stations

Discrete Samples
  • Salinity
  • Pigments (Chlorophyll a, Phaeophytin a)
  • TSS
  • Nutrients (Ammonium, Nitrate+Nitrite, Phosphate, Silicate, TN, TP)
  • Particulate Organic Carbon, Particulate Organic Nitrogen, δ13C, δ15N
  • Algal species composition/abundance *
  • Toxin analysis (HAB toxicity)*
  • Zooplankton composition/abundance*
  • Microbial composition/abundance*
  • Oysters*
  • Benthos*
Flow-through
  • Temperature
  • Salinity
  • Turbidity
  • Fluorescence
