Barataria Basin Monitoring Surveys
Water samples are collected along a 110 km transect spanning a range of coastal environments, beginning in the Gulf of Mexico and includes a portion of the Intracoastal Waterway, a mesotrophic and a hypereutrophic lake, and a cyprus swamp.
The following parameters are analyzed monthly: *limited stations- Water Salinity, Temperature
- Pigments (Chlorophyll a, Phaeophytina)
- Suspended load (sediment and organic)
- Carbon (TC, TIC, TOC)
- Nutrients (Ammonium, Nitrate+Nitrite, Phoshate, Silicate)
- Particulate Organic Carbon, Particulate Organic Nitrogen, δ13C, δ15N
- Algal species composition/abundance*
- Toxin analysis (HAB toxicity)*
- Zooplankton composition/abundance*
- Microbial composition/abundance (Vibrio)*
