Material Exchange Between Salt Marshes and the Estuary

Very little is understood about ocean margin carbon sources and the role in the global carbon budget. This project will improve our understanding of carbon export from fresh and salt marshes in northern Gulf of Mexico through a study in coastal Louisiana. Data collected will support regional models for ecosystem management through the NGI-LSU DELTA Ecosystem Forecasting System. Modeling and information management are critical to disseminate the current understanding of system response to restoration techniques.
